Is your website not secure? An unsecured website will negatively affect your rank and subsequently, organic traffic. Keep reading to learn why it's a big deal and how you can fix it.

Is your website not secure? Why does it matter?

First, according to a Hubspot research survey, 8 out of 10 visitors will leave if they see the warning in their browser that your site is not secure.

Not only does that affect your bounce rate, which will also affect your ranking, it's also a trust issue with your visitor.

If you want your prospective client or customer to read your blog, buy your product, or schedule you for a coaching call, you need to establish a level of trust.

Second, it's super hard to rank an unsecured website.

Google called for HTTPS everywhere back in 2014 and over the past 6 years has been enforcing that call to action.

And we all know that if we want to get a chance to rank, we need to make Google happy.

And third, there are numerous attacks a hacker can use on your website even when it is secured, so lacking a padlock is making your website a super easy target... it's like leaving the door unlocked to your house all of the time. It's fine until it's not fine.

So what can you do?

There are quite a few options for securing your website and you might even have an SSL certificate lying around from your host.

Even still, do this instead.

Step One:

Go to cloudflare.com and sign-up for a free account (this article is NOT sponsored, nor am I an affiliate partner).

Type in your domain name and click add site.

You're free to select a paid plan, but in most cases, the free plan will meet your needs

Cloudflare will populate your DNS records.

Click continue.

Step Two:

Next, you'll need to change the nameservers to Cloudflare's wherever you're hosting your domain by following the instructions provided.

Step Three:

Once you're done, click check nameservers again so that Cloudflare can verify the change was made.

And that's it!

Your website will be secured shortly
